Zoo Project

This is our Zoo Project for our Computers and Science class. We studied about a specific animal, a different one for each group. Our group got assigned the Sun Conure, which is a very beautiful bird. This project is about studying every way on how the animal lives, and to use multimedia tools to show and teach other people about their animal.
This project helped me remember everything about my animal, and it was really effective. I can jump up anywhere at anytime, and start talking about my animal with no notes. We did so many multimedia projects, which helped us learn everything about it, and when we test our work, we get the knowledge built into our brain even more. This is my favorite project of the year, and it was really effective!
This project reminds me of our Ancient Civilizations project last year in 6th grade, where we learned all about one specific civilization in a group, and we did lots of projects on it, and learned in a very effective way, just like this project was.
This project contained lots of multimedia projects contained in them. We used tools like GoAnimate, Weebly, Google Presentations, Tagxedo, BigHugeLabs, and many more! GoAnimate helped me how people animate videos, and using Weebly again helped me be able to navigate around much easier, and I got to see more things that I can do with it. Using Google Presentations was really easy, and everything got done efficiently. Using BigHugeLabs and Tagxedo was easy as well, because it was very easy to navigate around, and understand how everything works. Overall, this was an amazing project, and I loved it! Here's the link: computechzoo2013.weebly.com. Be sure to check out the Sun Conure page! The birds navigation page was also done by me. :)

Art Presentation!
|
In our Computer Class, we are using Google Slides to make presentations on a subject that we would like to teach. We create a PowerPoint, Prezi, SlideRocket, or Google Slides on this lesson. We search things about what we want to teach, and then we write down that information and the sources that we got it from. Next, we sort the information, and then choose what types of photos that we want to use when we are making our presentation. After that's done, we take out the information that isn't that important, and we keep the key element of each topic. Finally, we enter our information into the presentation maker that we are using. Then, you choose a style, and what type of font we want to use for the project.
My lesson was art, and some tips that are good for drawing.I wrote about different things that are nice, and some great effects that go along with it. I also made a presentation script so I would be ready to present to my fellow group members. Doing this project was effective for me, because when I had used Google Slides before, I could never do it right. This time, because I already gained knowledge from Microsoft PowerPoint, I did much better, and I think that doing this project is a great opportunity for people to learn about the subject that I was teaching. Doing this project also reminded me of last year in 6th grade, when our class got us in groups, and we made a project on Google Slides. It was a little hard at first, but we got the hang of it, and taught a lesson like we did this year. |
Fakebook!
This is my Multimedia project. Sorry for the ad in the way, just click on this the link to my project on the domain: http://www.classtools.net/fb/69/S2i2PN. This also talks about art, in the voices of famous artists. it also talks about some things that were in my presentation. Doing this multimedia project really helped me, because I had no idea how to do the Fakebook that I made right there. I learned about some great tools that I may use in the future.
Fakebook was a pretty good tool for me to use. It was pretty user-friendly, and they automatically inserted photos in for whoever you did the project on. It was really easy to use, and you didn't need multiple tutorials on how to use it. Doing this project reminds me of the Infographics challenge in the Tournament of Technology, because you have to present some sort of information with a graphic. Like infographics, it is showing the artists talking about information, using graphics, and a multimedia website. |
Art Instant Feedback (Review) Quiz
|
After we did the other google form, we decided to make an Instant Feedback Quiz. This was a good project for me to do. The instant feedback quiz was a different experience for me, because firstly, I've never made a quiz. The first quiz that I've made is the art quiz below.
I learned a lot from making this quiz, and I got to see more ways of doing things on google. Now, if I ever want to make a form for something that I am organizing, I can make easily, with no trouble. The Instant Feedback Quiz was a little different from the other one, because we added section breaks after the question, and explained the answer, instead of not knowing. This quiz relates to art, my other quiz, and history. This relates to art, since it is a whole topic on it. It explains about the things you can do to embellish a drawing, and what different drawing techniques there are. This quiz is related to the other one, because it is the same program, and they are also both on the same topic. Lastly, it relates to history, because we studied the renaissance, which we did a whole lesson on art, and the painters who were involved in it. |
Art Quiz
|
Based on our Multimedia and Presentation projects, we made a Google Form for a quiz. The main point of this project is to see if people understood about the presentation and multimedia project.
Doing this project helped me understand how Google Forms works, and what to do when in it. For this project, we used Google Forms, and in my opinion, I really liked using it, because it was user-friendly. It also was really easy to use, and you can catch onto it really quickly. This project reminds me of all the quizzes that we take in computers, because my teacher uses the same form creator. It also relates to my Destination Imagination group members. The members in my group created a Google Form, and we could find out the information quickly. Using Google Forms kept me organized, and I know I will use it in the future. |
Ribbon Hero 2

In computers, we did Ribbon Hero 2, and that was a good experience for me. It helps us learn how to do different things in Microsoft. It helped me learn how to do certain things in Microsoft products, like Excel. I never really used Excel, and we haven't studied it in class yet. When I did the Excel part in Ribbon Hero, I didn't understand too much, but it challenged my Critical Thinking skills, and secretly gave us hints if we were doing something incorrectly.
Using Ribbon Hero 2 was pretty easy, because the buttons were pretty clear on what they did, and you could navigate around very easily.
Doing Ribbon Hero 2 reminded me of last year in sixth grade when our teacher had us do a program called Brainology. Brainology, like Ribbon Hero 2, had a story, and taught us things in some sort of a secretive way. I like doing this types of projects, because they help me learn, and we have fun at the same time.

Free Typing Tests

We used FreeTypingGame.Net to help us learn how to type better in Computers, and I think that this has helped me a lot, and it shows proof of how our typing changed over time. My first typing score was about 30 words per minute, and now if you look at the certificate, you can see how many words I can type per minute, which is much better than just 30 wpm.
This project was pretty helpful, and I think that people who have trouble typing should go to this website to help them with typing. I now remember where keys are on the keyboard, and I can type without looking at the keyboard.
This website was pretty easy to use, but there were some confusions, but after a try or two, you can get to know how to use the website very easily. It was pretty straight forward what we had to do in order to complete the typing test.
Doing this typing exam reminded of, yet again, last year in sixth grade, where in our computer lab, we always went to a place called Dance Mat Typing. This was also another really effective tool on my typing skills, and I think that everyone should try using both FreeTypingGame.Net and Dance Mat Typing.

Power Searching With Google
Click for larger image.
For another computer class project, we did the Power Searching With Google course. This course teaches you how to search efficiently, some computer tricks, and other options while Google searching. For example, say you want to find your friend's blog, and you know they put their name in it. Say their name is Julia. You can search in the Google search bar and get tons of results for a Julia, but it isn't what you want. You should have a search query like this: 'julia site:blogspot.com'. Then, you can find what you want. There are so many more tricks that Google teaches you in this course.
This course was a really amazing learning experience for me, because now I can filter my searches, find things faster, use different search tools, see the Eiffel Tower in France using Google Maps, and so much more. I learned how to use a special trick that most people wouldn't know how to use by doing Power Searching with Google.. You can learn how to so all these great tricks too by taking the Power Searching With Google course. I really encourage you all to visit and do it. It helped me very much!

My Digital Life is a program online to help people understand the importance of things in technology. You learn how to stop cyber-bullies, stop people you don't know from reading your pages on a social network. You can also learn what to look for in a computer, how to protect your computer from malware, Adware, and viruses. You also can find out how to choose the best softwares for your computer, and much, much more!
I learned so much from this project. I found out how to deal with a bully, and how to stop them from hurting other people. I also learned about computers, how to handle them, protect them, and keep the browser updated to avoid malware and adware. In fact, I had some pop-up ads coming onto my laptop everyday, and I didn't know how to stop them. After doing My Digital Life, I realized I had to update my browser, and when I did, all those pop-up ads were gone! I'd reccomend My Digital Life, since it was such a great learning experience for me.

Google Docs

In our computers class, we have started to work on Google Documents/Drive, commonly known as Google Docs or Drive. Google Docs is an online "flash drive," where you can keep documents, spreadsheets, drawings, power points, and the list goes on and on. For our class, we did an essay on the great and almighty Roman Empire.
By doing this experience with Google Docs, we learned how to format our new type of writing style. We have to use Times New Roman, have the essay double spaced, and have the name, date and period single spaced. We also learned how to comment, insert a footnote, and use the research tool.
We also have shown our knowledge about the Roman Empire, and understand it more. This was a great learning experience for me, because I didn't know how to do all of these new tricks and things we did.
