The Sounds of Music....For advanced orchestra, the orchestra students will learn how to play advanced pieces in the arts of music, learn how to play in different clefs, find out how to shift, do vibrato, and keep up to tempo with some very difficult pieces. We will be learning how to take difficult pieces, and get better at playing them!

Bass Clef, Treble Clef, and Alto Clef

In this photo, there are three clefs shown. There is only one clef that you play depending on your instrument, and not all three. The first one is an alto clef, the one that I use to play my instrument, the viola. The next one is the bass clef, the one that cellos and basses play. The last one is the most common one that people know, the treble clef. This is the clef that violins and pianos play when playing their music. In my orchestra class, everyone is supposed to know how to play the bass and treble clef, but not the alto clef. For us viola players, we are truly lucky, because we get to learn three different clefs, and play three different forms of music. I just finished learning the other two clefs, and I found out that our notes for the bass clef are one note higher than what our note would be. For example, if our note was 'F' in the music, the bass clef's note would be 'G.' I also found out that in treble clef, their notes are one lower than our notes in music. So, for another example, if our note was 'A,' then their note would be 'G.'
The Viola, My Perfect Instrument

I love classical music very much! I am in the advanced orchestra, and the instrument I play out of all the lovely ones, is the viola. When I was in fourth grade at my elementary school Manchester GATE, I heard the sound of the violin, and thought it was way too high pitched and squeaky. Then, I heard the cello, and thought it was too deep. I heard the viola, and it was perfect. It isn't too high, and it isn't too deep. It had a sort of high-pitched string like the violins, but it also had a deep string, like the cellos. After my first year of music, I decided to continue with playing in the strings orchestra.
Now that I am at Computech, I get to choose two electives. When I was choosing my classes, I had to make a big choice, to be in art class, or in orchestra. I of course really wanted to be in Spanish, so I couldn't do both art and music. I then decided I should continue with strings, and not just quit in the middle of learning it. I was learning a very impressive talent, speaking and reading the new language of music, and playing the instrument itself. I thought for a long time, and finally made my choice of continuing on in the journey of music. Now, I am glad I made that choice, because it is now one of my favorite classes at Edison Computech Middle School!
