The Big Wave Haiku Project

For our English class, we read a book called The Big Wave by Pearl S. Buck. Throughout the story, we wrote haiku poetry. Afterwards, we wrote a theme paragraph. This was a fun project, because we got to learn how to write poetry, and think deeply about the book in general. That's a great type of project, and I like how we did this project using different types of writing and tools.
The tool that we used for this project was Google Drawing. This is a great tool that I suggest you use if you want to make an artwork like that. I wrote the haiku's underneath the photos that describe them. To do this in Google Drawing, to press enter, you would press shift and enter, which confused me at some times, but otherwise, it was a great tool.
This was an effective project for me, because it helped me get better at writing different types of poetry, and different types of paragraph writing. It also taught me how to use pictures and graphic to help explain the concept. Overall, this was a great project!

In our English part of our Core class, we went to Quia.com to check our skills with literary elements, plot, terminology, and more! I played a game that was about stories, and which parts did what, how characters are described, and it was in the form of 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire?' I won the one million dollars, because I got all the questions right. Some students may not even realize that they are learning in the process of this. I didn't really feel that I was learning, but in the end, I realized it. I had gotten 100% on a quiz about literary elements. Educational games and websites such as Quia, are great for learning for students!
